New Food Blog

I was inspired by Christine to start using a blog for my food posts. Chris is going to be posting with me - he prepares most of the meals for us during the week. He loves trying new recipes which keeps it interesting. I like cooking, but I love baking. I know we won't be posting every day on the new food blog like I do on this one, but hopefully a couple times a week. Check it out - even though it is pretty bare at the moment.

21 of 21 - Sheep

I made it!

I don't know if I did exactly what I was suppose to for this challenge, but I had a lot of fun and it was great to see all the other folks work. I created this illustration completely in Photoshop, which isn't my normal way. Usually I like to use illustrator and a little Photoshop. I like it.

Illustration Friday - Worry

Sometimes all my worries rain down on me.

20 of 21 Creative Challenge - almost done! :)

Baking - Oatmeal-Raisin Bars

A tasty treat I made recently.

I altered the recipe by replacing white flour with whole wheat flour. I think it turned out great - so if you prefer eating whole wheat flour this recipe is flexible. Oh, and since we were both wanting something with a little chocolate in it, I did half raisins and half semi-sweet chips.

This is a character I drew in my sketchbook last night, I thought I would get it on the computer.

I'm going to use it for a bookmark.

Green Bee Tips

I have been meaning to create a little "green" icon for my side bar and for whenever I want to share some green knowledge, sites, and products. These are a few that I wanted to share today.

50 Ways to Help
I love this page - the icons are wonderful and the clean design just appeals to me overall. Great tips!

The Green Guide
This site is one of the sections on the National Geographic web site. It is very informative site that gives green living tips, product reviews and environmental health news.

The Green Guide - What you should know about plastics

Rethink Design
Great information for the designer and their projects.

I hope you find these helpful. I will start updating my side bar with links with future links for easy access.

This is also my illustration for 21 day creative challenge - 18 of 21.

Planting - Dead heading

I have been deadheading (new term for me) the Rhododenrons and this was a collection of all the red blooms. This color of blooms is really odd to photography - every shot the color looks way off. I mostly liked this image for the background - I love the scattering of light and color.

Baking - Coconut-Pineapple Loaf Cake

I made a Coconut-Pineapple Loaf Cake today. It was a new recipe in the recent FOOD magazine.

Ingredients

Pre-baked

...and done! It is a tasty cake - the recipe asks for pineapple chunks, thought next time I will crush down the pineapple to slightly smaller sizes. But it is a great cake and not too sweet.

I had nothing for creative challenge today, some thing tomorrow I hope!

Strawberry Shortcake

I made this Strawberry Shortcake the other night. The first night we had some I completely forgot to take a picture before gobbling it down. Tonight, I remembered!

This is the only picture I took while cooking - I thought it was a pretty interesting photo.

Planted Seeds

First off, I am feeling much better. Thanks everyone for the well wishes :) Still not a 100%, but definitely better than I was a few days ago *cringe*, that was rough. I am being positive and hoping for a quick recovery.

Second, I have been wanting to share some photos of seeds we planted. I finally got a chance to take a picture of the cute little starts coming up.

These are the seeds we wanted to try first. We didn't plant the squash.
Ready to go and grow!
Radishes! We wanted to do these because we heard they are a great beginner's plant to grow from seed and we love them in our salads.
Lettuce (left), radishes (right) and in the way back, upper right is a spinach start.

I hopefully didn't just jinx us and these don't get much further, but I am hopeful. Any growers visiting my blog - I would love any tips and tricks you can give for growing your own vegetables. I will definitely share more when they get bigger.

We had some deer come around and eat all my English daisy blooms - they were supposed to be deer resistant. And I was just thinking yesterday I wanted to pick a few and take some photos, but since I was sick didn't quite feel up to it - so needless to say I am a bit bummed! Oh well, the risks of living around all this wildlife.

Illustration Friday - Wide

My take for IF topic "Wide" . Sometimes you have to open wide to get that perfect combination of frosting and cake - though most the time I like to eat the bottom cake part and save the frosting part for last. Okay, now I want a cupcake...

The scanned in sketch from my book. (13 of 21)

Thanks for visiting :)

Gah - Sick Girl

Not a great shot - but I thought it was fitting for my current status. This is a headband.

I can't believe I some how caught a flu - it's really kicking my butt too. Aches, pains, chills, and fever are the worst part.

I will catch up on Creative Challenge in the next day or two.. I really don't have time to be sick.. especially when the weather is so nice!

Day 12 of 21 - Boy Walking Dog

#12 of 21.

I don't draw enough males in my illustrations, so made a point to draw a boy walking his dog for this one.

Illustration Friday - Electricity

There is something so amazing about getting natural electricity from the sun, not to mention, wind and water.. good stuff. The other drawing I did for this was Totally Solar Electricity - I decided to post the rough from my sketchbook too - a bit dorky, but hey, what can I say I'm a kid of the 80's. My color scheme is a bit more 70's in this piece though.

Thanks for visiting :)

These are also my #10 of 21 creative challenge.

Windy Day

Things are quite busy around here lately - freelance work, birthdays, mother's day, graduation, planting, drawing, oh and talking on the phone with one of my closest pals - Curt Rogers at While Walking Duncan blog. And he says I never plug his blog :)

I have been drawing in my sketchbook - even have an idea for Illustration Friday that I need to get on the computer - but I will have to share that tomorrow. Today I wanted to post a picture I took this weekend that came out crisp and gorgeous. I love the color of the petals and that the camera caught them so well on a windy day. It made the picture all the more unique in my eyes. The petals almost look like shaved chocolate or pencil shavings maybe... anyways.. off to bed I must go!

Day 9 - Quick Draws

I didn't have much time today - though I did create several designs for work and a freelance project that I wanted to finish up tonight. So I decided I would scan in some doodles that I really liked from my sketch book - I definitely want to make something with the girl in the upper right.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers. My mom liked her card and gift :)

Did this for Day 9 of Creative Challenge.

English Daisy + Rhododendron

I picked a few flowers off our little Rhododendron and put them with a pink English Daisy I already had in my studio. I loved the combination so decided a picture was a must for my blog. I played around with the coloring a bit and am very happy with how this turned out - a bit different than more normal bright colored photos.

Day 8 - Free Draw

I think I am behind on posting, but I have been drawing. This is a page from my sketch book - even though I get nervous showing this kind of thing ..but that is part of this challenge for me.

Blooming in the Yard

Our Rhody's are blooming right now - mostly this pink one is fully bloomed. The others are slowly opening up.

I went and picked up some chocolate mint - I looooove the smell. Can you tell I love mint!?

Day 7 - Angle Pets

Tonight I decided to try making characters using the same similar shape to create it. I really enjoyed it and like the outcome. I think I will make digital versions of these at some point.

Baking - Carrot Cake Cupcakes

Mmmm carrots! I can't wait to grow my own in the near future! :)

The bare muffins cooling before being iced.

Yum! Cream cheese frosting with some walnuts for decoration.

I used this recipe - the coconut is fantastic in it. I have never made a carrot cake using coconut, I like!

Oh, I almost forgot to add - I love to have something on in the background while I bake. Last night I had this movie playing - I love it!

Day 6 of 21

I was lacking inspiration when I started to work on my drawings. I looked around my desk and decided I would use something on my desk to create the shape and then build from that. I used a travel size Purell Bottle for the body shape on this one. I liked it and definitely helped me have a starting point for tonight.

This was the first drawing that came in the start of my free drawing. I need to practice on drawing larger at some point. This drawing is about 4" x 4" - I try and draw larger but then usually go right back to small.

Yellow Tulip

I have quite a few macro photos I took - during the challenge - that I want to share. This one was my desktop for a while. I like the perspective and the yellow and green just scream spring. And I really like the other yellow tulip in the background.

Illustration Friday - Seed

This is a fun topic - so many ways you can take it. Being that I am in the planting craze right now, I had to do something like this.

Thanks for visiting and for any comments - I enjoy them all! :)

This is also my 3 of 21 for the 21 Day Challenge.

Herb Madness

I am on serious "want to grow" things kick. I've been doing a lot of reading about growing food and having a sustainable garden. I am eager and excited to get this started. So on Friday I picked up a bunch of herbs - ricola mint, orange mint, spearmint, peppermint, parsley, cilantro, and chamomile to start in a pot. I came home right after work and got to planting. I am so happy with this pot of herbs and hope I can grow them all successfully. I am not much of a natural green thumb, but I have the heart to try and learn whatever I can so I can grow food, herbs, flowers, etc.
